MangoDisk is an open source, safety-first disk cleaner, storage analyzer, and system toolkit built with Tauri 2 and a Rust core. It runs natively on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and ships the same cleanup engine both as a graphical desktop app and as a standalone mangodisk CLI.

The desktop app covers ten core workflows. Deep Cleanup scans system and app caches, browser data, package-manager downloads, IDE and Xcode data, container caches, project build artifacts (node_modules, Rust target, Gradle, Swift, Python, .NET, Godot, CMake outputs), and downloaded local AI models, grouping candidates by reclaimable space with smart recommendations. Large File Cleanup finds bulky installers, videos, and archives; Duplicate File Cleanup verifies exact duplicates by content rather than filename, always keeping at least one copy per group; and Disk Space Analysis renders a treemap or sunburst chart so you can drill down to the largest folders and files. On the maintenance side, MangoDisk adds a Privacy Cleanup (browsing history, cookies, recent items, clipboard traces), an Application Uninstaller that also removes leftover caches and settings, Startup Item Management, System Optimization, System Maintenance one-click fixes for common macOS/Windows problems, an Operation History log of every change, and a resource monitor with CPU, memory, and network stats available from the menu bar or system tray. Optional AI explanations (free daily quota, or bring your own AI service) describe what an item does before you act on it.

Safety comes first: scans are read-only by default, nothing is deleted without explicit confirmation, and every cleanup rule must be backed by vendor documentation, exclude personal files and protected paths, and pass validation on real systems. The full rule library and its revision history are public on GitHub. Unlike CleanMyMac X, DaisyDisk, or CCleaner, MangoDisk is fully GPL-3.0, covers macOS, Windows, and Linux from one codebase, keeps its rule set transparent, and offers a reproducible CLI for scripted use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which platforms does MangoDisk support?

MangoDisk offers a native desktop app for macOS (12.5+), Windows (10+ 64-bit), and Linux (Ubuntu 22.04+ recommended, .deb and AppImage). The standalone CLI is available to build from source. There is no mobile or web version.

How does MangoDisk decide what is safe to clean?

MangoDisk maintains its own cross-platform cleanup rule library. Each rule must be backed by Microsoft, Apple, or vendor documentation, define a safe boundary that excludes personal files and protected system paths, and be validated on real macOS, Windows, or Linux installs. The complete rule library and revision history are published on GitHub for review.

Can I use MangoDisk from the command line?

The CLI uses the same Rust cleanup engine as the desktop app and is available as build from source. By default mangodisk clean only scans; run mangodisk clean --apply to apply smart recommendations, use --dry-run to preview, --format json for machine-readable output, and pass --yes to confirm deletion in non-interactive scripts.

Does MangoDisk automatically delete files?

No. Scanning is read-only and never changes anything on its own. The desktop app shows grouped candidates with reclaimable space and risk notices, and you review and confirm before cleanup, deletion, uninstalling, or system changes run. Every action is recorded in Operation History so you can track what was done.

Does MangoDisk do more than clean the disk?

Yes. Beyond cleanup and storage analysis it includes a Privacy Cleanup for browsing history, cookies, recent items, and clipboard traces, an Application Uninstaller that removes leftover caches and settings, Startup Item Management, System Optimization and Maintenance fixes for common macOS and Windows issues, a resource monitor for CPU, memory, and network usage, and optional AI explanations that describe items before you act on them.

Is MangoDisk really free?

Yes. MangoDisk is licensed under GPL-3.0 and the desktop app plus CLI are free to use on all platforms. The only optional extra is the built-in AI explanation feature, which includes a free daily quota and can also be connected to your own AI service.
